Q) What are some of your most recent projects that you are
working on?
A) The most recent project I've done is "Little House on the
Prairie" and that was directed by the best director I've
worked with, David Cunningham. I did Cat in the Hat with Mike
Myers, Kelly Preston and Alec Baldwin and Dakota Fanning. I've
done a couple commercials. I did one recently that is coming
up for Jake's Archery and the Archery Federation.
Q) Please tell us about the mini series "Little House On
the Prairie" and your character Mary.
A) "Little House On the Prairie" is about a family, Laura
Ingles, Mary Ingles and their parents. It is about this
family and the city they are living in is too crowded and
there are no more animals to hunt. They travel and the story
is taken exactly from the book and it is from Laura
Ingles-Wilder.
Q) How did you hear about the project and what was your
audition like?
A) For my audition, I had to go and say a couple of lines. I
thought I did very well. We weren't even out of the building
and my agent was calling and saying, "They loved you! They
want to see it again tomorrow!" So we went again the next day
and that was it!
Q) What was it like working with a cast so diverse in age?
A) It was so much fun! This was by far the best drama I've
ever filmed. Laura Ingles, which was played by Kyle Chavarria,
her and I got very close. We'd have sleepovers and we'd go
rock climbing. The woman that played Ma (Erin Cottrell) and I
are both dancers. She's a dancer, I've been dancing for seven
years and she's a dance teacher. Sometimes, when a song came
on the radio (like the song "Hey Ya" by Outkast [That's our
song]) we'd dance. Also, even offset, I always called her Ma.
We got so attached that I just got comfortable calling her Ma.
That's just what Kyle and I did!
Q) What was your most memorable moment from the project?
A) One day, we were all in a car heading home, and my real
mother and Ma were sitting next to each other. I said, "Hey
Ma," and they both said, "Yes dear!" They both got used to
being called Ma. I also really liked the outtakes and one of
my most favorite scenes is when we were about to cross the
Mississippi River and the ice breaks. They did some really
cool special effects on that! They did a wonderful job at that!
Q) What made you want to be a part of this project?
A) Well, my mother and I loved watching the show. We'd always
watch the reruns. It's just a great show!
Q) There are photos of you taken at age 7 for Rubber Ball
that have been featured on billboards, buses, library books
and many other places. What is it like traveling around and
seeing yourself on these places?
A) It's kind of funny. I did photo shoots for Rubber Ball
Productions and I was driving along in the car with my friend
and I saw a billboard and was like, "Hey that's me!" I called
my mom and I was so excited I said, "Mom! I'm jumping on a
billboard!" When you drive around and sit in the back, you
notice a bus and say, "Oh my God! That's me!"
Q) Why did you decide to get into acting?
A) I started out as a Hawaiian Tropic and I modeled for
Hawaiian Tropic in their beauty pageants. My agent said
that I was doing well in them and that we should try sending
me out on an audition and see how she does. I went on my
first audition and booked it. That made her say, "This is
what Danielle needs to be doing!" So, it just kind of
started off from there!
Q) You have worked with Vivica A. Fox, Evan Rachel Wood,
Mike Myers, Cameron Bancroft and many other celebrities. Who
would you most like to work with in the future and why?
A) That's really tough! My favorite actress is Kiera Knightly.
I love all of the movies she's done! King Arthur is one of my
favorite movies. Robin Williams sounds really fun and Dakota
Fanning just did a movie with Tom Cruise called War of the
Worlds and she said Tom was great to work with. So, she's got
me wanting to work with Tom and he seems really great!
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) I love to ride horses. I get lessons from my Aunt Tammy.
I do dance and gymnastics. During the summer, I am in a
baseball league. My friends and I are really into sports.
Sometimes my mom and I run to the mall to have a pretzel and
talk. I also love to ski.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) I just want to say that I hope everyone enjoys the show.
Cameron [Bancroft] and Erin worked so hard; they are great
examples to Kyle and me. We all gave 110% and I think the
best part of this movie (besides meeting new friends) was
learning about how people lived back then and all the trouble
they faced. My mom's favorite thing was watching how creative
Kyle and I were because it made it seem like we were actually
living on the prairie.
